The commercial office buildings to the east of Wythenshawe are vacant and require significant investment to remodel and/or demolish this stock of properties. The prominence of the Shell UK building and the intention of Shell UK to vacate that building requires Manchester City Council intervention as the freeholder.

2012
Regeneration Framework updated and adopted by Manchester City Council in December 2012. The Framework sets out how the Enterprise Zone provides the opportunity to deliver the vision for a successful district centre by creating employment generating floorspace and attracting a more diverse footfall into the Town Centre
OCTOBER
2014
Manchester City Council have secured possession of the former Shell UK site in the Town Centre. The old office development has been demolished creating a significant development opportunity in this prominent location at the junction of Rowlandsway/ Simonsway. The transfer/surrender date was 23 October 2014

Metrolink opened to the public on 3rd November 2014, more than a year ahead of schedule (June 2016)
